Giant waterfalls 3 day trekking
Choose hiking or horseback this adventure is perfect for nature lovers and birdwatchers. The ecosystems change as we move deeper into the SantoDomingo Valley. Spend the night at the base of 3 of the largest waterfalls in Colombia and try our luck fishing at night. If the weather and water conditions are appropriate a large rappel on a waterfall is possible. All meals provided.
Start at the office, where you register for insurance, you can leave your belongings in the office or take them in the car, approximately 1 hour in a 4×4 truck until you reach the road to the Santo Domingo river canyon. Choose hiking or horseback riding. This adventure is perfect for nature lovers and bird watchers. Ecosystems change as they enter the Santo Domingo Valley. Spend the night at the base of 3 of the largest waterfalls in Colombia and try our luck fishing at night. Accommodation stay in small mountain cabins, camping in hammocks or tents available. If the weather and water conditions are stable, a large rappel in a waterfall is possible. All meals provided until lunch on day 3.
Itinerary:
Day 1
- 12 km: begin in the small village of La Vega where we unload the truck and begin the hike into the lush mountain jungle. Arriving at some of the largest waterfalls in Colombia we set up base camp and enjoy the natural pools and crystal clear Santo Domingo river.
Day 2
- 8 km: After a quick campesino style breakfast we continue up the valley in search of the garganta del diablo a very large waterfall spurting out of the side of the mountain a very impressive sight and with some of the most isolated natural swimming pools few people reside here and there are no cities or towns near by providing a 100% natural experience. Setting up camp in a previous FARC outpost dinner will be prepared by the fireside and guests can enjoy the many waterfalls and pools close by.
Day 3
- 8 km: Make our way back from the outpost and down the Santo Domingo river. Keeping our eyes open for large blue morpho butterflies and a number of bird species can be seen including toucans and parrots. Preparing for either the climb out of the valley to El carmen de viboral or descending the river back to la Vega. This trip can be combined with white water rafting ending in the village of Pailania. Arriving back to Freakn Creekn Office for lunch.
